Accessibility

We want everyone to be able to use this website, including people who use a screen reader, a keyboard instead of a mouse, magnification or other assistive technology.

Our goal

Children’s World aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, the widely used standard for accessible websites.

What we’ve done

  • Every page works with a keyboard alone, and a “Skip to content” link jumps past the menu.
  • Photos have text descriptions, and headings, labels and page regions help screen readers find their way around.
  • Text and buttons have strong color contrast.
  • Pages fit screens as narrow as 320 pixels, the same as zooming a laptop browser to 400%, without scrolling sideways.
  • Every field on the online forms has a label, and mistakes are explained in words, not just by color. If the page is reloaded, the long forms keep what you’ve typed.
  • Animations are turned off for visitors whose device is set to reduce motion.
  • Pages are checked with automated accessibility testing (axe) on phone, tablet and computer screen sizes whenever the website changes.

Known limitations

  • Some downloadable forms are PDF or Word files made before this website, and they may not work well with every screen reader. Enrollment, documents and the job application can all be done online instead, and we’re glad to provide any form in another format.
  • The virtual tour video and the map on the Contact page come from YouTube and Google Maps, so their players aren’t under our control.

Need help, or found a problem?

If anything on this website is hard to use, or you need information in a different format, please let us know and we’ll help you get what you need. It helps to mention the page and what you were trying to do.
